Introduction
A startup that had developed a unique product for its industry, secured strong investors and positive press coverage, was on track to having to shut down operations because management and the largest financial owner were unable to find a path to profitability and strong top-line growth. Our client, a minority shareholder in the company, was unhappy with the state of affairs and contacted us for help developing an alternative strategy for the company. He believed there was significant unrealized potential in the business and that it was possible to turn it into a success. Management and the largest investor simply needed to look at things differently.
What we did
Together with the minority shareholder, we created an alternative strategic proposal that we presented to the other owners. We built an initial financial model, a new operating model, and challenged the other owners’ assumptions to drive through change. We succeeded, and the company is now highly successful—partly thanks to an active minority shareholder.
